Your monitored websites and services, settings, and check history stay on your Mac. This page is short because MonoBar does very little with data — here is all of it, stated plainly.

Your monitoring data stays on your Mac

Your monitored websites and services, settings, and check history are stored locally, in ~/Library/Application Support/MonoBar/. There is no MonoBar account, cloud dashboard, or sync. Delete the folder and the local monitoring data is gone.

A Direct MonoBar Pro entitlement is stored separately in Keychain. Polar is the Merchant of Record for Direct Pro and keeps the operational purchase, payment, tax, receipt, refund, license, and activation records needed to provide and manage the purchase. Deleting MonoBar’s app-data folder does not remove the Keychain entitlement or Polar’s records.

No telemetry

MonoBar contains no analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking. It does not send your monitored websites, service choices, settings, check history, or license values to monobar.app. The necessary and optional network requests MonoBar can make are listed below.

The network requests MonoBar can make

  1. Website checks and tests. MonoBar requests the public HTTPS websites you configure on the schedule you choose. Test URL and Check now make deliberate requests, including while scheduled monitoring is paused.
  2. Service status checks and validation. If you enable a service, MonoBar fetches its selected public status report. OpenAI and Claude are included and off by default; Pro can add supported public services. Adding a service by status-page URL may make a deliberate validation request.
  3. Update availability checks. Optional automatic and manual checks contact monobar.app to determine whether a newer signed Direct release is available. Automatic checks run at most once per rolling 24 hours and may run while monitoring is paused. They send no website, service, monitoring, history, or license values, and never download or install an update.
  4. Direct Pro activation and deactivation. When you explicitly activate or deactivate Pro, MonoBar contacts Polar with the license information and random activation identifier needed to perform that action. It does not send monitored URLs, history, or a hardware serial number. After activation, normal Pro use requires no recurring license checks.

Like any HTTPS connection, each destination can receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address, request time, and technical request metadata.

Links for changelogs, downloads, purchases, recovery, and license management open only when you choose them and are handled by your browser, not MonoBar.

Scheduled website and service checks run only while MonoBar is open and monitoring is active. Manual tests, Check now, eligible update checks, and explicit license actions are deliberate exceptions while monitoring is paused. Quit MonoBar and its network activity stops.

No credentials for monitored sites

MonoBar never asks for passwords, API keys, or tokens for the websites or services you monitor, and rejects URLs with embedded credentials. One honest note: a URL is stored as you typed it—so don’t put secret tokens in a monitored URL.

A Direct Pro license key is separate from monitoring credentials. It is handled through License settings and Polar only for the explicit license actions described above.

This website

MonoBar adds no analytics, cookies, advertising, or web fonts to monobar.app. Page assets are served from monobar.app. Pro demo videos load from media.monobar.app only after you press Play. Cloudflare delivers the website and may receive ordinary request data and browser network-error reports as part of that service.
