Privacy — MonoBar for the Mac App Store
Your monitored websites and services, settings, and check history stay on your Mac. This page is short because MonoBar does very little with data — here is all of it, stated plainly.
Your monitoring data stays on your Mac
Your monitored websites and services, settings, and check history are stored locally, inside MonoBar’s own macOS app container (its sandbox). There is no MonoBar account, cloud dashboard, or sync. If you use Import Existing MonoBar Data, MonoBar validates and copies the MonoBar data folder you choose, leaving the original unchanged.
No telemetry
MonoBar contains no analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking. It does not upload your list of monitored websites, service choices, settings, or check history to us. The network requests MonoBar can make are listed below.
The network requests MonoBar can make
- Website checks and tests. MonoBar requests the public websites you configure on the schedule you choose. Test URL and Check now make deliberate requests, including while scheduled monitoring is paused.
- Service status checks and validation. If you enable service monitoring, MonoBar fetches the selected public status reports. OpenAI and Claude are included, with service monitoring off by default; Pro can add supported public services. Adding a service by status-page URL may make a deliberate validation request.
- Purchases through Apple. MonoBar Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase through the App Store. MonoBar uses Apple’s StoreKit to read verified Pro purchase information at startup and receive purchase changes while it is open. Opening Pro settings loads product information from Apple when needed. Buying Pro and choosing Restore Purchases communicate with Apple; Restore refreshes your purchase information. These actions can happen while monitoring is paused. Apple handles payment and account authentication. Apple’s privacy policy applies to your purchase.
Like any internet connection, each destination can receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address, request time, and technical request metadata.
Scheduled website and service checks run only while MonoBar is open and monitoring is active. Quit MonoBar and its network activity stops.
Notifications
Pro notifications are created locally on your Mac. They are not sent through a remote notification server.
No credentials for monitored sites
MonoBar never asks for passwords, API keys, or tokens for the websites or services you monitor, and rejects URLs with embedded credentials. One honest note: configured URLs are stored locally, so don’t put secret tokens in a monitored URL.
